Dynamic Risk Assessment Programme

Your people operate in ambiguous, uncertain situations where no perfect rules or processes exist. Equip your operators with the skills to deal with risky, fast-changing events with our Dynamic Risk Assessment (DRA) programme.  They will learn:

  • How to increase, maintain or regain situational awareness
  • Barriers to good decision-making under pressure and how to deal with them
  • How maximising learning from experience improves DRA
Examples of risk for the Dynamic Risk Assessment Programme

The Dynamic Risk Assessment (DRA) programme will improve teams’ and individuals’ ability to make decisions in unfamiliar situations that may have significant consequences.  Normally 1-2 days, it can be tailored to your requirements.  Key elements of the programme are:

  • Background and theory of DRA
  • Practical demonstrations of the factors affecting Situational Awareness
  • Interactive session on cognitive biases, fast and slow thinking and types of decision-making used in dynamic situations
  • Reflection on how to improve their organisation’s learning culture
  • Discussion of case studies based on real-life scenarios

We also run longer programmes to train DRA internal champions.

At the end of the programme your operators or teams will have:

  • Increased awareness of the internal and external factors which may affect their situational awareness and decision-making
  • Tools to support their decision-making in ambiguous, unfamiliar situations
  • Practiced DRA using example ambiguous situations
  • An understanding of the key building blocks of a learning culture and why it’s important for DRA
  • Reflected on the relevance of the learning to their own organisation

ENQUIRE NOW

A busy London airport engaged Mission Excellence to deliver an integrated programme of DRA training to key employees.  Fire Service crews were selected as the initial focal group.  After an initial phase of analysis including observation of  training scenarios we designed and delivered a  series of 1-day workshops to enhance the crews' ability to use DRA in their roles.  The success of this led to a bespoke 2-day programme designed to equip a group of Safety Managers to be DRA champions.  Following this, they were able to identify areas that required better DRA skills, run workshops, and spread best practice across airport staff.

DRA training can improve decision-making in any environment where ambiguity exists, but we have particular expertise relating to high-risk industries including:

  • Energy
  • Healthcare
  • Emergency services
  • Aviation
  • Construction
  • Financial services
